Step Kids a hip-hop musical
Commissioned and first presented by First Stage Theatre, Milwaukee. Developed further by The Fled Collective at The Flea Theatre, New York City.
About
At Freeman College the ultimate prize isn’t a spot on the basketball court or in the marching band—it’s a place on the All-Stars, the school’s elite step dance team.
Step Kids unfolds at the annual tryouts where Yessica, a fierce dancer driven by the memory of her absent father, fights to prove she belongs.
As each round intensifies friendships spark, rivalries flare, and the wants and dreams of each dancer are laid bare.
Fueled by electrifying choreography, hard-hitting hip-hop music, and raw emotion, Step Kids is a bold celebration of rhythm, dance, and the power of community.
