Black TYA Shows licenses plays and musicals that center black stories.
Founder Tyrone L. Robinson is an ASCAP Frederick Loewe Award winning composer/lyricist and writer. His music was featured at New York’s Public Theatre in Bliss by Jerome A. Parker which starred Tony Award winner Andre DeShields and Daphne Rubin-Vega (Rent).
Robinson has had writing commissions at TheatreWorks USA, First Stage Milwaukee, Children’s Theatre of Charlotte, and The Kennedy Center and his play Strong Inside, adapted from the New York Times best-selling YA book Strong Inside by Andrew Maraniss, had its world premiere at Nashville Children’s Theatre.
Tyrone holds a MFA degree in Writing from NYU Tisch School of the Arts and is an alumnus of the BMI Lehman Engel Musical Theatre Writing Workshop in New York City.
